A question not asked on a regular day that many people don’t know the answer to, What Is Science? Well science is the study of the natural world, from your body, to rocks, erosion and so much more. Science teaches you about things that you wouldn’t know about until you unlocked the world of magnificent science, like for instant, you wouldn’t just know the parts of your body by looking at it, science breaks this down for you in books and presentations, so that you actually understand things about the world. Science tells the history of the natural world as well as how the natural world works. Also, the people who teach us about science are people called, Scientist, they study everyday to find cures for diseases, they help us understand how to figure out what type of rock we are looking at by rubbing it against something or feeling the texture of it. Also, another thing is that without science a lot of people would have died a long time ago, because we wouldn’t have any cures or medicine that could save peoples life if we didn’t have science. So to sum it all up, science is research, that helps us better understand the natural world and how it works and also the things inside of it. It teaches us about many things that we couldn’t have understood if we didn’t have the simple 7 letter word, it shows or helps us understand the beauty of being a human, Science is one of the most important things that the human beings have!
Questions: In a Paragraph or more tell the class your Interests, favorite subjects, favorite topics in science, least favorite topics in science, and what you Would Like to Learn This Year
My interest are, eating, reading, playing on the computer and dancing. My favorite subject is math and in science my favorite topic to focus on is Plants, and also the weather. My least favorite topic in science would be rocks and erosions, because last year we had a lot of learning about this so I am very sick of rocks and erosion. This year I would like to learn more about diffrent types of plants and animals. I would also like to know some more things about how they figure out when hurricanes are coming. Also, I want to learn why scientist don't yet know how to figure out when a tornado is going to occur.
Have you ever wanted to grow a plant but didn’t feel like doing the research to make sure it would come out right? Have you ever had to do a project and just didn’t know what where the basic things that you would have to research in order to make your project a success? Well this report will focus on some of the things that you should start researching in order to make your experiment great. The problem statement for my project is: Which plant can grow the tallest with different types of liquid, other than water? That is what I will be focusing on in my experiment. My hypothesis for this project is: If I put water in one plant, then I think it would grow the tallest. In this experiment I will have three different plants. I will feed one with water, one with juice, and one with milk. Every week, I will check on the plant to record its growth, I will then record the data and at the end of the project I will make a graph .The controlled variables in this experiment are the amount of the liquid, amount of sunlight, amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide, and the type of soil. The independent variable in this experiment in the type of liquid. While the dependant variable is the length at which the plant will grow. While researching I saw that plants make food from water. I am hoping that the plants will still grow from juice and milk since it is still a liquid. My prediction although, is that the water will cause the plant to stay alive the longest. I will also use the same type of plant for each one of my experiments. While doing my research I found out that pH, means the percentage hydrogen, while other places it said pH stood for potential hydrogen. But in both places I see that hydrogen will be the second word. Potential or Percentage hydrogen refers to the full amount of acid and alkaline inside of two things, water and growing medium or soil. Plants need pH in order to survive, hydrogen is actually one of the four things that a plant needs in order to live. Without pH, plants wouldn’t be able to take in any of the nutrients. I also saw that once a plant has died, there is nothing else you can do to revive it or cause it to come back alive. For this experiment I will need to know what factors will affect the plant growth. During looking for this I found that there are at least 8 factors that affect the height at which a plant will grow, these are:© Temperature
© Moisture Supply
© Radiant Energy & Composition of the Atmosphere
© Soil aeration & soil structure
© Soil reaction
© Biotic factor
© Supply of mineral nutrients
© Absence of growth-restricting substances
I know you are wondering what these are so I will tell you.
Temperature is the measure of heat.
Moisture Supply is restriction of plant growth cause by low and high levels of soil moisture.
Radiant Energy, which is energy of electromagnetic waves.
Composition of the Atmosphere is the amount of nitrogen, oxygen, and other gases that is contained here.
Soil Aeration is the process in which you would use mechanized equipment to damage or puncture the soil.
Soil structure is basically how each piece of soil clump and bind together causing aeration.
Soil Reaction is basically the degrees of particular soil.
Biotic Factor is when one organism affects the life of another organism.Supply of mineral nutrients is really self-explainable.
Absence of growth- restricting substances is basically things or materials that stop a plant(s) from growing.
So now that you know the meanings of these you can see how they each connect with the growth of plants.
Also, I was told to research the germination rate, I found out that the germination rate is the amount of a particular of certain group of similar plants that are likely to germinate. I found out that to find out the germination rate then you would have to change a fraction into one that has a denominator of 100. Then you would have to put it as a percentage. So for example , it showed one that said if you were to plant 50 seeds and out of those 50 , 35 germinated. That would make 35 over 5o, which when you put it over 100 would be 70 over 100. This would then mean that 70% of the seeds germinated. That would be the total germination rate for that particular experiment. So now I know that, that is one thing that I would have to find out. Some people even thought that you would have to plant 100 seeds since you have to put the number over 100, but that isn’t the case. It just simply means to turn whatever fraction you got into 100. So to sum it all up, for a project like this two of the main things that you should research are pH and germination rate. These two things would help you better understand how to conduct your experiment. As I said before, pH is something a plant needs to take in nutrients. So make sure that when you do your experiment that there is a lot of hydrogen for the plants to take in. Also, make sure to record your germination rate. With an experiment like mine, the germination rate would be out of 3, and don’t forget that you have to make it out of 100. Also, whatever you multiply the bottom by to get to 100, is the same thing you have the multiply the top by. Then you find your percentage. This will lead to a awesome project and hopefully an A.
Problem Statement: Which type of water will make a plant grow fastest?
Hypothesis: If I put water in one plant, then I think that plant will grow the fastest.
Controlled Variables: Amount of liquid, amount of sunlight, amount of carbon dioxide and oxygen, and type of plant and soil.
Independant Variables: Type of liquid.
Dependant Variable: Wether the plant will die or not.
